Riera Joins Galatasaray

Galatasaray has signed Albert Riera transferred from Olympiacos with a four-year contract with an option in the last year.

Galatasaray SK will pay EU 3 million transfer fee to the Greek club. A total of EU 9.1 million shall be paid to the professional player in installments in addition to EU 7,500 per match he played.

Born in 1982 on one of the Balearic Islands, Riera began his football career at the youth academy of Real Mallorca. In 2003 he was transferred to FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Signed by RCD Espanyol he returned to Spain two years later. He stayed at the Spanish club until 2008 but with a break in the second half of the 2006 when he was given on loan to Manchester City.

In the autumn of 2008 Riera signed with Liverpool. Two years later he joined FC Olympiacos before signing with Galatasaray.

Riera has been a member of Spain national squad since 2007. He scored the winning goal of Spain against Turkey in the 2010 World Cup qualification game at the Ali Sami Yen on April 1, 2009.
