Despite the presence of significant midfielders like Kaka, Ronaldinho, Diego and Juinho, Elano was selected for the Brazilian national team 40 times, for which he scored 6 goals.

Elano is one of the prominent among Brazilian players who has discipline and technique. He is capable of playing anywhere in the center field or in the attacking right flank. He is also able to score from distance with free kicks and renown with his dribbling skills.

He has been in the Brazilian national team roaster since 2004 and scored 6 goals in a total of 40 games. And out of 131 games he played at one of the Brazilian giants, Santos, between 2001-2005, Elano scored 33 goals. In 2005 he was transferred to Lucescu’s Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine where he played 48 times with 14 goals.
