Galatasaray have signed İlkay Gündoğan

We are pleased to announce that, ahead of the 2025/26 season, İlkay Gündoğan has signed a two-year contract with Galatasaray.

Born on October 24, 1990, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, İlkay Gündoğan began his football career at the youth academy of his hometown club, Hessler 06.

Following his development years at Hessler 06, Schalke 04, SSV Buer, and Bochum, Gündoğan took his first professional step with 1. FC Nürnberg. His remarkable performances there earned him a €5.5 million transfer to Borussia Dortmund.

During his five seasons with Dortmund, he secured four trophies before moving to England in the summer of 2016. Gündoğan became Pep Guardiola’s first signing at Manchester City for a transfer fee of €27 million.

Throughout seven successful seasons in Manchester, Gündoğan established himself as one of the club’s key figures, winning a total of 14 trophies, including five Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League title.

At the beginning of the 2023/24 season, he joined FC Barcelona on a free transfer. After spending one season in Spain, he returned to Manchester City.

On the international stage, Gündoğan has represented the German National Team 82 times, recording 19 goals.
