Post-match comments after Çaykur Rizespor draw

Post-match comments after Çaykur Rizespor draw

Our coach and players gave their post-match comments after the 1-1 draw against Çaykur Rizespor in Çaykur Didi Stadium.

Coach Fatih Terim: "We did not play like an away team. The game we want to play is slowly coming. We controlled the game throughout the match, arranged the flow of passes, made some little mistakes but dominated the game generally. This was important for us. We did not play like 1-1 was enough or an advantage for us. Our players chased the win until the last second, created chances, one of our shots hit the woodwork. We need to have a rich repertoire of offensive plays and players. Our only problem was having a few number of players who run, sprint behind the opposition defense. We put the ball down, built from the back, reflected our mentality. In the first half Feghouli, Linnes and Ömer stayed too much on the wing. In the second half, they cut inside more to open flanks for our wing-backs. We are going to be better every day."

Emre Akbaba: "When we were drawn against Çaykur Rizespor, Coach called me to his side and said "I believe in fate, you are going to play against them. I played my first official game against the team I was injured a season ago, carried the armband as the captain and scored a goal. I cannot thank my coach enough. Just after my injury, I spent some time in France. He kept calling and asking about me when I was there. This is really valuable. I worked really hard to experience such a return. This is the beginning. I want to do much bigger things and have much bigger achievements."

Jean Michel Seri: "Honestly we could create more chances tonight. Our execution was not enough when we had the ball. That's why the game ended with a draw. Now we have to concentrate on our next game. We will start the second half of the league at the home. We want to perform our best and get 3 points. I need to work more every day and improve my individual performance."

Martin Linnes: "This is a good score for the second leg. We could have won the game with the way we play. I think we deserved to win. There was a missed penalty call for us. Our second goal was disallowed. But it was a tough game all in all. Not bad to get a draw against such a tough opponent. We have the advantage because we are going to play in front of our fans at home."

Adem Büyük: "We now have an advantage but we should have won. We had chances. We found the second goal but it was disallowed after VAR inspection. For me, I did not foul the player in that position. I put my body in front of the opponent and he hit me. Also, VAR should have been used when Emre Akbaba was fouled in the box to award us a penalty."
